At 40-something 
and having a 16-year old daughter who is very into makeup, we have used countless mascaras in our home. Although I’m always willing to try something new, I inevitably go back to Loreal Voluminous Mascara. It stays put, it’s non-clumpy, and two coats gives you every bit of “drama” that the very expensive brands boast. My daughter has her Dad’s short eyelashes, and can make them appear thick and long with this stuff!
I’m a daily user of the Carbon Black, and when I’ll be shedding tears or have a humid day ahead, I reach for the Waterproof. Both are pictured here. The Waterproof is outstanding (obviously more difficult to take off at night). Cost ranges between $5.50-$7.50, depending on where you shop.
